Trend Tuesday: The Shirtdress Three Ways

The shirtdress is a classic silhouette. However, this season we’re seeing it flourish with new hemlines, colors and fabrics from dozens of designers and brands. Shirtdresses are a part of the larger “utility” trend that includes pieces like the boiler suit jumpsuit, cargo pants and the utility jacket.

Here are three ways I’ll be wearing the shirtdress this season plus some styles that you can shop.

The Mini

Styling mini dresses with sneakers is one of my go to looks. Sneakers make this short and sweet dress a little more casual.

I love this dress from Target in particular because its a fun faces print in a classic monochromatic color combo.

The Midi

This midi shirtdress is another one from Target that I have had for a really long time. The shirttail hem is my favorite part of this dress because it elongates the leg.

I love buttoning this dress all the way up to the top button. This creates a contrast between the conservative look of a high neck with the less conservative all over sheer fabric.

The Maxi

A maxi shirtdress like this one is a perfect dress for anything—from work, to a bridal shower, to running around on the weekends. Just changing your shoes will change the whole look.

I love this I.N.C maxi shirtdress because the lightweight fabric makes it comfortable and easy to wear on warm spring days.

Trend Tuesday: Lots Of Dots

As we wait for it to feel like spring outside, stores are teasing us with all the spring dresses and bright colors. One trend that I know will be in everyone’s wardrobe this spring is polka dots.

This print is a classic that never really goes out of style. However, this spring we are seeing it in all shapes and sizes! My favorites come from Topshop. They have so much for variety that there is something for everyone. My favorites are this multi dots skirt, this structured blazer, and this 40’s style dress.

Polka dots are being shown in black and white this season. I love styling this monochromatic print with denim as well as solid yellow. This combo really makes both the print and color pop together while letting them both shine.

I also love mixing dots with stripes! It can be such a fun, graphic and monochromatic look like this:

Finally I love mixing graphic tees with any polka dot bottom (skirt or pants) or a dot blazer! I think it adds a feminine touch to a more edgy graphic tee.

Trend Tuesday: Kitten Heels

Heel wearers everywhere are rejoicing! We are now in a season where comfort is key and smaller heels are in fashion. This means less wobbling when strutting down the sidewalk.

The kitten heel has been creeping its way into fashion since the summer, and now they can be seen on boots from almost every retailer. That’s not the only place they’re showing up. Kitten heels are also on pumps, mules, and sandals this season.

Let’s face it though—when you are out working and pounding the pavement the average person wants to have some comfortable shoes. That means your consumer wants smaller heels. They are opting for those over the sky-high styles. That’s not to say high-heeled styles aren’t still popping up, but personally I usually opt for a heel under 3”. In fact, some studies say they ideal shoe heel height is around 1” because of the way the arch of the foot is shaped.

Now, let’s talk skinny vs block

Kitten heels are coming in all shapes and sizes this season thanks to the brilliant minds of designers all over the world. These can range to a pin heel to a literal block on the bottom of your shoe (like this gorgeous style from Mango).

I personally favor the block style—and not just for the extra surface area for me to balance on. I love the way block heels look on all shoes, from boots to sling backs. A block heel just looks more chic and substantial to me. That’s not to say I am not warming up to the idea of a skinny kitten heel. The sock boot trend is making me reconsider the skinny heel on shoes. There is something about that particular style that makes the skinny kitten heel look sleek.

Whether the heel is skinny or a block, I am a fan of the kitten heel. Which I am sure would make my 18-year-old self cringe because she would never be caught in anything other than a pair of converse or a heel no shorter than four inches.

However, with any trend, the pendulum must swing the other way and by next winter we will all be in sky high heels again. Until then, I will stock up on my short, wearable heels and wear them until they become worn down to flats.

Trend Tuesday: Slogan Tees

Slogan tees have been gaining popularity since the fall. I think partially because woman feel like they have something to say. It started out as slogans mostly related to feminism, but recently there have been more about just cute sayings in fun colors. I love wearing jeans and t-shirts and slogan tees make wearing this sort of look more fun. The addition of embroidery for some of these slogan tees has made it more elevated and expensive looking.

I personally love slogan and band tees to make anything look a little cooler and less girly. Slogan tees with skirts and converse are a staple outfit in my wardrobe. Of course you can’t go wrong with jeans and a slogan tee! I love wearing these sort of looks on the weekend and on casual Friday at work. What do you think of this trend? Is it just a fad or here to stay?

Trend Tuesday: Bracelet Handbags All Under $50

As you may have noticed hardware has been a trend for the last few season. You can get any kind metal detail on your clothes and accessories. Today, I am talking about the ring detail and metal handles specifically on handbags.

I think this is a new and interesting detail that makes any bag look modern. You can get this detail on so many designer bags, but now it’s coming out in a price range we can all afford! I first noticed this trend in the Chloe Nile bags. Chloe have a way of making their bags so detailed and textural they almost feel like jewelry. I personally just caved and bought a bracelet style bag from Forever 21! I tried to find a link online, but it’s no where to be found so you will just have to check out my haul coming soon.
