I cannot believe it is the last day of September. With the close of the month comes the end of my summer capsule. I can look back and reflect on what worked, what didn’t and what I kept in mind when choosing my fall capsule.
July
I started off strong wearing fun cute outfits like dresses and blouses wanting to create cute summer outfits with my newly created summer wardrobe. But I quickly changed my tune in August when the stress of work eliminated all motivation and creativity.
August
In August I started wearing the same things over and over again.
About midway through my capsule I got really uninspired. I found myself just choosing the same t-shirt, and jeans combination over and over again. It made me feel like I had picked the wrong pieces. I guess this was true considering that I didn’t wear at least five of the skirts I had pulled out, two of the dresses, and my leather jacket. I just wasn’t drawn to wearing them to sit at home.
WFH Casual
When I chose my capsule pieces back in June I thought that I might go back to working in an office at some point during the three months of my capsule. However, in August I realized that was not going to be the case. So, knowing what I know now, I would have chosen more casual pieces. In September, when I thought I would be in office, I found myself cold and bored with the same old dressy summer clothes.
September
When I chose my capsule, I chose summery pieces like airy dresses and short sleeve tops. However, it turns out that even in the dead of summer I run cold. With this in mind, when I make future capsules I am going to make sure to choose a few cozy options even in summer. I ended up reaching for mostly long sleeves and long pants with a cardigan for the remaining days in September.
Wardrobe Groundhog Day
By the end of the capsule in September I felt extremely bored the with clothes I had chosen. I was ready to move on to my fall capsule. With the fall weather teasing me, I was tempted to start my fall capsule early. I did hold off if only so say that I actually stuck to the rules I had set for myself. Instead of wearing cozy fall pieces, I brainstormed ideas for all the fall outfits I was ready to make. For my future summer capsules, I want to have a cozy piece or two just to feed my fall needs when September rolls around.
Was The Capsule a Success?
Overall, I wouldn’t say my capsule was a success because I don’t think I got the most out of my 36 pieces. However, I am proud of myself for only wearing the pieces I set aside for this experiment. By following the capsule, I was able to see what my tendencies are when it comes to choosing pieces to wear on a daily basis. I am going to take everything I learned, and apply it to choosing my fall capsule. Hopefully I learn even more from that!
Let me know if you guys have tried a capsule wardrobe and what pieces you wear over and over again in the comments.
