I recently made the conscience choice to go out of my comfort zone. For the past 24 years I have stepped out every now and then, but then I come running back because…
a. I don’t do it that often and its scary.
b. It gives me major anxiety
c. It gives me an opportunity (or many) to fail
A lot of us avoid doing things that scare us our entire lives. We stay in our safe zone in ignorant bliss unaware of what could be.
I have decided that I can’t just be. I’m not just going to sit around waiting for things to happen. I need to go out and try new things that will bring new dimension to my life.
Pushing The Fashion Boundaries
I mentioned this on my Instagram recently because though basics are necessary, (and go with everything) I want to challenge myself to try new things with my wardrobe. Fashion is too fun to just wear the same basics in the same combination day in and day out. In this outfit I am mixing print, colors, and basically breaking all the fashion rules. Some of you might like it and some of you may not. The best part is, I do and that’s what matters.
Visiting New Places
I have always been into traveling, but this year I have used more than one weekend to getaway and explore some place new! Whether it was Sedona, Arizona or Toronto, Canada I have been gaining experiences that I will never forget. One day, I hope to have a job that I can work on from wherever I am so I can explore as much as possible (who doesn’t?). There is so much culture to live, food to taste, and history to learn and I don’t want to miss out on it.
Trying New Foods
I recently left my comfort zone in the way I am eating. Eating was comfort and I would eat until my body told me that I was unbearably full. I was eating whatever food I wanted, and never thought twice about how it was affecting my body. Now I choose foods that will keep me fuller longer and actually give my body the nutrients it needs to be energized (with the occasional treat of course!). I have been trying all kinds of weird stuff in this quest for healthier and better for me foods. I have tried and enjoyed kimchi, chia seeds, protein powder, and almond butter just to name a few (not all together!). Leaving this comfort zone has made me excited about trying new foods and recipes so I can eat tasty AND healthy foods all day long.
Reconnecting With Old Friends
Do you ever look back and think how did I even lose contact with that person? There are so many people in my life that I look back and think about all the positive experiences I had with them. I wish I could have tried harder to make friendships work, but there is no point in dwelling on the past. There is no point to dwelling on things you can’t change. Leaving this comfort zone was especially scary because of that awesome possibility of rejection. What if this person just doesn’t want to know you anymore? So what? Then its just practice for the next interaction.
Meeting New People
I have a bit of social anxiety, so this comfort zone was very comfy. Being in large groups of people I don’t know freaks me out and give me anxiety. I didn’t want to feel anxiety so I would avoid those situations. I call myself an extroverted introvert. If I know you, you won’t be able to get me to shut up. However, if you’re new to me I will be shy and barely say two words. I have been forcing myself to just go for it. If I see or meet someone I think I will be able to connect with I will reach out. I will tell you it has been pretty scary, but extremely worth it.
