As a teenager and in my early 20s I rarely went into GAP. It was just never a brand that was on my radar. I had different priorities back then. My top priority when it came to fashion was to get clothes as cheaply as possible, and wearing the latest trends so H&M was my go-to. Occasionally, I would buy one or two things from GAP, but I would never go in and love everything they were offering. However, recently I have had my eye on a lot of the pieces being sold by GAP.
Rediscovering the Gap
I was drawn into the store by the colors and patterns throughout their assortment, along with the walls lined with denim. Gap stays relatively neutral with pops of color and print. The prints are very classic with mostly ditsy florals, checks, plaids, and dots. Other than a few pieces, most of GAP is solid colors.
When it comes to quality, in general I think it’s pretty good for the price. The fabrics feel substantial and expensive including their denim. One thing that I truly appreciate as a customer is that I don’t ever have to worry about sheerness at least in the pieces I have tried on. Everything is either always thick enough or lined so I don’t have to figure out what specific undergarments I need for a certain piece.
The thing that really has me excited these days is their actual product. Honestly the overall style direction GAP probably hasn’t changed, but now that I am older I am looking for pieces that are a little more classic, and higher quality so I can keep them in my closet longer. GAP’s style direction fits that bill. I feel like a lot of their silhouettes are more classic, but with a twist in fabrication or detail which is right up my alley. There is nothing that feels really trendy that would make it feel out of date by next season.
Pieces I’ve Bought and Love
A few pieces that I love from GAP are their vintage tees. They are so soft, but still have that crisp look of a 100% cotton tee.
Another piece I love from GAP it their girlfriend style jeans. In the past, I didn’t like the fit of gap jeans, but recently they have been offering a wider variety of styles that I really love including the girlfriend fit and the cheeky high rise that I have my eye on.
I also fell in love with GAP’s high waisted wide leg trousers they offered this spring. I picked up a pair in a khaki, and I love the way they fit into my wardrobe.
Are there any stores that you have recently rediscovered and why do you like shopping there now? Let me know in the comments!
