Last spring this trend started as a bomber jacket. As we move into this coming spring this trend has snowballed into a full on group of trends. We call this athleisure. Let’s not kid ourselves. The fashion industry and consumers alike we’re just trying to think of ways to make wearing leggings and sweatpants fashionable! This trend takes all the aspects of athletics, from sneakers to track jackets and sweatpants. You are able to add these pieces into closet and mix them in with your existing pieces. An outfit following the athleisure trend might have a jogger pant, with a button down and a blazer.
In some cases, the trend is being infused with this pieces like the flared leg trouser with the athletic stripe down the side in a fabric we associate with athletics. The winner in all of this is the customer. Now we are able to wear these trousers made in a comfortable athletic material and mix it with a button down shirt and be on our way. For how “denim-centric” our winter and last spring was I imagine this spring will be entirely different.
I personally love this trend. As someone who is very interested in fitness, I love the idea of translating those pieces into my everyday wardrobe. It’s taking easy and comfortable pieces and elevating them with more tailored pieces or just going with a fully athletic look. I am very interested to see how this trend is styled by brands as well as taking a crack at it myself.
Here are some pieces I am loving from the athleisure trend
